Supporting Intercultural Workplace Inclusion (SIWI) in Medicine Hat
Summary
We are seeking a program coordinator at Saamis Immigration Services Association. In this role, the incumbent must promote and implement diversity and inclusion initiatives, fostering an inclusive environment where all parties feel valued and respected, often through training programs, open dialogues, and inclusive policies.
Responsibilities
● Develop and implement strategies to foster a more inclusive community, including diversity training programs, employer mentorship initiatives, and resource groups.
● Create a culture where all parties feel valued, respected, and included, regardless of their background or identity.
● Address issues of equity and ensure that all employers have a complete understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds.
● Develop and deliver diversity, inclusion, and intercultural communication training programs to help employers understand and appreciate different perspectives.
● Create platforms for open dialogue and communication about diversity and inclusion issues.
● Track the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
● Keeping abreast of current trends and best practices in diversity and inclusion.
● Work with employers, service providers and community members to ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
To be a successful SIWI program coordinator, the incumbent needs relevant education, experience, and skills, including a strong understanding of diversity and inclusion principles, cultural competence, and effective communication.
● A bachelor's degree in organizational psychology, sociology, cultural studies, human resources, or a related field is beneficial.
● A master's in related education will be preferred.
● A minimum of two years of experience designing and implementing diversity and inclusion programs is often required.
● Familiarity with relevant employment laws and regulations related to diversity and inclusion is crucial.
● Certifications in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, such as those offered by the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) or other relevant organizations.
