Reports to: Executive Director
The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) is seeking a thoughtful, organized, and curious Learning and Impact Coordinator (LIC) to join our team.
The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta strengthens communities by building permanent endowment funds, investing in regional charitable initiatives, and providing leadership on issues affecting regional well-being. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, CFSEA is a public foundation committed to fostering community vitality across Southeastern Alberta.
The Learning and Impact Coordinator is a forward‑facing, strategic role that strengthens CFSEA’s ability to understand, strengthen, and communicate the difference we are making across Southeast Alberta. This position supports CFSEA’s Freedom to Explore strategic priority by helping the organization learn from its work, measure its impact, and build confidence in pursuing new opportunities.
The role combines learning, impact measurement, and interim operational support. It is well suited to someone who enjoys connecting ideas to action and helping an organization grow in thoughtful, practical ways. The position is intentionally designed to grow into a full‑time role as CFSEA’s learning and impact work expands.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Learning & Interim Bookkeeping Support
Provide interim support for day-to-day bookkeeping activities including:
Accounts payable and receivable
Account reconciliation
Preparation of routine financial reports for review
Supporting tracking and documentation of:
Learning and innovation-related costs
Advisor engagement and pilot initiatives
Work collaboratively with the ED and finance supports to ensure financial information helps inform learning and decision-making.
Note: Bookkeeping support is a defined, supporting aspect of this role and is expected to evolve as operational capacity stabilizes.
Organizational Learning & Impact Readiness
Coordinate internal learning activities related to:
Innovation in philanthropy
Non-traditional gifts and alternative investments
Emerging community needs and opportunities
- Gather and summarize insights from:
- Staff experiences and pilots
- External advisors and subject-matter experts
- Sector research and peer foundations
- Prepare learning summaries and briefing notes for internal use.
Measuring Community Impact
- Support the design and use of practical tools to understand the impact of CFSEA’s grants.
- Collect, organize, and review grant reporting information in conjunction with the Grants Coordinator to support understanding of grant outcomes and impact.
- Help identify patterns, outcomes, and lessons learned across grants.
Advisor & Knowledge Activation
- Support the thoughtful use of external expertise to inform learning, innovation, and decision‑making.
- Help staff and leadership clarify questions or learning needs before engaging subject‑matter experts.
- Document insights from conversations with external advisors or experts and translate them into practical takeaways.
- Track recurring themes, risks, or opportunities that emerge from expert input.
- Support alignment between external insights and CFSEA’s learning priorities and strategic direction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of learning, evaluation, impact, or organizational improvement practices.
- Ability to synthesize information from people, data, and experience into clear insights and recommendations.
- Comfort working with ambiguity, experimentation, and work that evolves over time.
- Analytical thinking paired with practical follow‑through.
- Ability to work with both strategic information and practical operational tasks, including financial data.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A curious, reflective approach and interest in community impact.
- A commitment to transparency, learning, and responsible stewardship.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience with bookkeeping or financial systems is an asset.
- Experience in impact measurement, evaluation, research, operations, or a related field.
- Comfort working with both qualitative and quantitative information.
- Able to manage competing priorities within limited weekly hours.
- Experience in the non‑profit or community sector is an asset
Hours of Work & Compensation
The Learning and Impact Coordinator is a part-time position (20 hours/week). Compensation is provided according to CFSEA’s approved salary grid, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The role requires professionalism, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, particularly in managing a dynamic workload within a growing Community Foundation.
Occasional work outside of regular office hours and off-site activities (e.g., community events, board and committee meetings) may be required. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to upholding CFSEA’s values in professional, non-partisan, and community-focused manner.
