BUSINESS AS USUAL AFTER UNEXPECTED EVACUATION

BUSINESS AS USUAL AFTER UNEXPECTED EVACUATION

The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce was able to safety evacuate all exhibitors and attendees from the 2020 Sunshine Home & Garden Show on March 7th, following notification of an isolated electrical fire.

The Chamber worked diligently with the City of Medicine Hat Fire Department and the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede to resolve the situation and ensure public safety was the number one priority.

The electrical fire was very isolated and contained to a mechanical room in the far side of the auditorium building. As such it has not affected any exhibitor booths.

From the information received, the trade show will resume regular show hours on Sunday, March 8th with show opening at 11:00 am.

We look forward to serving all our exhibitors and our community and we encourage everyone to come out and show their support to our amazing exhibitors who showed patience, cooperation and understanding during this situation.

We are thankful to the Medicine Hat Fire Department, the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, along with the electrical contractors and all our amazing vendors and incredible Chamber of Commerce team”, stated Executive Director, Lisa Kowalchuk. “I am extremely proud of the way this situation was handled and the cooperation and coordination of everyone involved. Public safety was our first priority and we were able to not only evacuate everyone quickly from the buildings, but also ensure that we had ongoing communication with those involved.”
